Expressing Ability adalah ungkapan yang digunakan untuk
mengungkapkan kemampuan akan sesuatu hal. Sedangkan, Expressing Disability
adalah ungkapan tentang suatu hal yang menunjukkan ketidakmampuan akan sesuatu
hal. Pada postingan kali ini saya akan berbagi tentang berbagai macam
expression yang bisa digunakan ketika kita kebisaan kepada seseorang atau malah
sebaliknya. Untuk setiap situasi tersebut akan dibagikan beberapa dialogue yang
bisa digunakan sebagai acuan dalam memahami penggunaan expression tersebut.

Dialogue 1 :
Sasya : Hi Adya.

Sasya : How are you doing?
Adya : I'm doing alright. How about you?
Sasya : Not too bad. The weather is great isn't it?
Adya : Yes. It's absolutely beautiful today.
Sasya : I wish it was like this more frequently.
Adya : Me too.
Sasya : So where are you going now?
Adya : I'm going to meet a friend of mine at Batam Ballet Training.
Sasya : Going to do a little dancing?
Adya : Yeah, I have to perform a farewell party next week.
Sasya : It sounds nice, Are you capable of dancing?
Adya : I am pretty good at the dance.
Sasya : That's great. Well, you better get going. You don't want to be late.
Adya : I'll see you next time.
Sasya : Sure. Bye.
Dialogue 2 :
Reza : Hi, Adzra!
How are you today?
Adzra : Oh, Hi
Reza...! I'm fine, thanks.
Reza : Do you have
any planning for tomorrow?
Adzra : No, I
haven't, why?
Reza : Would you
like to going with me to my uncle's house?
Adzra : Of course, I
would.
Reza : But, can you
drive a car?
Adzra : "Don't worry, It's easy. I've took a course and got a driving license, but I am not able to
drive a
big car."
Reza : It doesn't
matter, My car is a carry. So, you don't need to drive a big car
Adzra : Yeah. So,
when we will go?
Reza : Wait on your
home, I will come there...
Adzra : OK!
Kemauan melakukan suatu tindakan (willingness)
Willingness and Unwillingness
Willingness ini
dalam bahasa Indonesia artinya kemauan. While Unwillingness means ketidakmauan. ekspresi ini adalah ekspresi yang sering kita gunakan dalam kehidupan kita sehari-hari.
♣ Asking & Expressing
Willingness and Unwillingness
• Sentences of asking Willingness and Unwillingness is same and have several patterns, that is :
1. Will + S + V1 + O + adv + ?
Will you send the letter tomorrow ?
Will she come soon?
Will he give you the book?
2. To be + S + willing to + V1 + O + adv + ?
Are you willing to swim with me tomorrow?
Are he willing to give you the book
3. Would + S + (like to) + V1 + O + adv + ?
Would you like to swim with me this evening?
Would you like to send the letter?
• Expressing Willingness
1. S + will + V1 + O + adv
Example :
I will give you the book.
I will send it tomorrow.
She will come soon.
2. S + to be + willing to + V1 + O + adv
Example :
I am willing to swim with you this evening.
She is willing to give you special present.
3. S + would/ would like to + V1 + O + adv
I would like to send the letter this afternoon.
He would come soon.
Generally speaking, before say willingness, preceded by
"Yes".
Example :
Yes, I will send it tomorrow.
• Expressing Unwillingness, the patterns is same with
Expressing Willingness, it's just added the word '' not '' before/ after the
modal of willingness.
Example :
1. I will not send it tomorrow.
2. She is not willing to come this evening.
3. He is would not to give you the book.
4. I would not like to come tomorrow.
Generally speaking, before say unwillingness preceded by
apologizing ( Sorry), and after say unwillingness preceded by reason.
♣Example dialog from book
Winda : "I'm tired. Will you print this report,
please?"
Sardi : "Sorry, Win. I'm on my way to buy lunch."
Winda : "Will you buy me one too?"
Sardi : "Sure."
Winda : "Thanks"
Sardi : "OK"
